Meet Nelson Portillo, Owner of Smooth Painting
Nelson has spent more than 10 years in the painting trade. He started as a helper carrying ladders and taping off rooms, worked his way up to crew supervisor, and learned the craft on hundreds of homes across the Twin Cities.
The part he loves most happens before the first brush stroke touches a wall. Walking the house with you, asking what you picture, and putting together a plan that actually fits your home and your budget.
He founded Smooth Painting in August 2022 so he could do that on every job. For the company’s first three years, his father, Nelson Sr., ran the main crew alongside him.

Nelson Portillo founded Smooth Painting in August 2022. He brought more than 10 years of hands-on painting experience with him, working his way from helper to crew supervisor before starting the company.
